What Box 2 is for
HMRC's guidance says you can use the schedule spreadsheet to tell HMRC about an error that meant you were overpaid the last time you made a claim. The template calls this the "previously over-claimed amount", and it is Box 2 at the top of the sheet.
Enter the tax, not the donation
This is the common mistake. HMRC says you must enter the amount of tax over-claimed, not the value of the donation. The template repeats it: show the tax, not the donation, and do not use a £ sign.
The amount you enter is taken off the claim you are submitting. HMRC also says that if the overpaid amount is more than the repayment you are claiming, you will need to make an additional payment to HMRC.
When you have nothing to declare
Leave Box 2 blank. Do not enter 0, N/A or Nil, as the template asks you to leave sections that do not apply blank.
Not sure how much was over-claimed?
Work it out from your records of the earlier claim, or ask the HMRC Charities helpline. HMRC's guide says to contact the helpline if you submitted an incorrect claim. Donor Schedule does not work this figure out for you.
In Donor Schedule, you can type the amount into the Box 2 option before you build your files. It goes in the first file only.
